Description: Nisei male, born on January 4, 1914 in the Florin area to a farm family growing strawberries and grapes. In 1942 when George was twenty-eight, his family was evacuated to Jerome and Rohwer, Arkansas, then to Amache, Colorado. The Florin Fruit Growers Association oversaw the farm in the Miyao"s absence but the family received no money from farm proceeds. George left the family in camp to work in a defense plant in Chicago where he observed discrimination against black people and describes racism against Japanese in Sacramento and Florin. Resettlement in Florin about 1945 was a harrowing experience as George describes complications of housekeeping, cooking, transportation, funds, etc. He sold the farm in 1952 and became a gardener.
