Presentation Sisters with their pupils and other camp residents at Camp Comfort, a refugee camp established in the Dimond District, Oakland, California following the 1906 earthquake and fires. The Sisters began teaching in the camp's tent school almost immediately, despite losing both of their San Francisco convents in the disaster, and continued to do so for several months, traveling over one hour each way daily from their convent in Berkeley, California.
