The Kenton Hardware Company of Kenton, Ohio made this cast-iron toy truck during the 1920s. The red truck has wooden barrels in its rear bed, and the word “Speed” in raised letters on the side. Kenton was one of the major manufacturers of cast iron toys, and auto-related toys were one of their big sellers. Originally called the Kenton Lock Manufacturing Co., this Ohio firm made its first cast iron toy (a bank) in 1893. Kenton began making toy cars in 1903.
