Mercury spacecraft were fitted with a periscope similar to this device, made by Perkin Elmer, which allowed the astronaut to make precise observations of the Earth below. The scope had a removable filter, and two magnification settings. This is an unflown specimen.

Transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1977.
