For stable, almost hands-free use of cameras, brackets like this one could be placed inside and outside a spacecraft for mounting camreas. Astronauts usually placed them near windows in order to set up a consistant location for shooting photographs, natural phenomena, or the surface of the Earth.

NASA transferred this bracket to the Museum in 1971.
