This "Blood Chit" was owned by Lieutenant General Claire Lee Chenault of the Flying Tigers. All members of the American Volunteer Group carried one of these small documents in case they were downed by the Japanese over China. In Chinese, these documents could read anywhere from: "This foreign person has come to China to help in the war effort. Soldiers and civilians, one and all, should rescue and protect him." to "I am an American airman. My plane is destroyed. I cannot speak your language. I am an enemy of the Japanese. Please give me food and take me to the nearest Allied military post. You will be rewarded."
This object is not on display at the National Air and Space Museum. It is either on loan or in storage.
