This is a 1:4 scale model of DigitalGlobe's WorldView-3 remote sensing satellite. Launched in August 2014, it is the first commercial multi-payload, super-spectral, high-resolution satellite. The best resolution obtainable is about 10 inches in black and white. It can revisit targets in less than one day and can image up to 688,000 square kilometers (265,000 square miles) daily. The imagery is used for numerous civilian applications. Additionally, U.S. defense and intelligence agencies purchase it to help meet their requirements.
David Gianakos built the model and DigitalGlobe donated it to the museum.
