This is a spare emergency oxygen mask from the Skylab program. Astronauts aboard Skylab in 1973-1974 had various life support provisions for possible emergencies. In case of smoke or noxious gas inside the space station or a failure of the environmental control system, they could don emergency oxygen masks connected to a temporary oxygen supply. This would give them safe breathing air while they worked on the problem or put on pressure suits to escape in their parked spacecraft.
NASA transferred it to the Smithsonian Institution in 1994.
