This is an unflown Gemini high frequency whip antenna. Each capsule had two of these extendable/retractable antennas that were used in the voice communications system during the orbiting and postlanding phases. This system enabled ground controllers and the astronauts to talk with one another. The system's transmitters and receivers operated on a frequency of 15.016 megahertz and an output power of five watts. Raymond Engineering Laboratory made the antenna and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration transferred it to NASM in 1970.
