Date 1880-1890 Type ART-Prints, Original Medium Print, Planographic Process on Paper Physical Description Planographic print of nine collecting cards showing uniformed sailors flying in via balloon to capture the Chinese Governor of the Bac-Ninh province, near Hanoi. While relaxing on a hill with his rabbits, the governor is frightened by an approaching balloon carrying French sailors. The sailors land, capture the governor and his rabbits, and make rabbit stew. Bac-Ninh was the site of a major battle between the French and the "Black Flag Army" on March 12, 1884. The town fell to the French and became a provincial center. Printed in color with gold background. Cards numbered 1 through 10 (excluding 7), and each has a caption in French. There are a total of 11 cards in the complete set.
