This is a model of unknown scale of the Hound Dog GAM-77, a U.S. Air Force air-to-ground missile made by North American which also had the designation Hound Dog AGM-28. Carried by and launched from B-52 intercontinental bombers, it had a nuclear warhead and was designed to destroy Soviet air defense systems enabling the bombers to reach their targets. The missile had a maximum speed of Mach 2.1, a range of 710 miles, could fly from tree-top level to 55,000 feet, and utilized an inertial navigation system linked to the aircraft. First deployed in the early 1960s, it was withdrawn from service in 1976. John and Cynthia Heyde donated this model to NASM on an unknown date.
