This challenge coin represents the office of the Deputy Administrator of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Challenge coins such as this one are issued by military units, organizations, agencies, and companies and given to members, employees, supporters, and VIP guests. This challenge coin belonged to NASA astronaut Kathryn D. Sullivan, who served as the Deputy Administrator of NOAA from May 2011 until she became the agency's Administrator in 2013 (acting) and permanently from March 2014 until January 20, 2017.
Dr. Sullivan gifted this challenge coin to the Museum in 2019.
