This is one of three pieces of equipment used to train astronauts for Project Mercury. The three consoles were connected to a mock-up of the Mercury capsule, with realistic switches and displays, to simulate the various phases of an actual flight. It was used to train astronauts for the first two suborbital flights, which were launched on Redstone rockets, and on subsequent orbital flights, which were launched on Atlases. The simulator was built by McDonnell Aircraft and installed at the NASA Langley Research Center.

Transfered from NASA to the Museum in 1970.
