This spacefood package contains dehydrated corn chowder, and was flown on the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. However, as it was not consumed during the mission, it was returned to Earth. The package rquired the addition of 3 oz hot water prior to consumption.
Food for spaceflight had to be nutritious, lightweight and have the ability to be compressed when possible. For the early missions, it also had to be stored without refrigeration and have the ability to be eaten under weightless conditions.
Transferred from NASA to the Museum in 1984.
