This is a roll of dental flos from a Space Shuttle hygiene kit. Each astronaut aboard the orbiter had a personal hygiene kit with items for cleanliness and grooming during the mission. Contents typically include a comb, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, soap, shaving supplies, lip balm, deodorant, skin cream, nail clippers, sleep mask, and ear plugs. Astronauts can choose their own items from selected brands.
NASA transferred to the Museum a variety of extra items from personal hygiene kits packed for the STS-7, -8, and -9 Space Shuttle missions of 1983.
