This is an original F-1 rocket engine handler used to move the engine in a horizontal position within assembly buildings, repair shops, or hangars. If the engine was to be transported over a considerable distance, the handler had to be transported by another vehicle.

This handler came with the full F-1 engine on exhibit in the "Apollo to the Moon Gallery" at the National Air and Space Museum in downtown Washington. The F-1 on display at the downtown location is the earliest F-1 engine in the NASM collections and was donated in 1970, when the F-1 was still operational in the Apollo program.

NASA transferred this handler and the rocket engine to the Museum in 1969.
