This is was the first of the final series of Apollo spacesuit prototypes that was used for testing in the year before the Apollo lunar missions were to begin in 1968. The manufacturer, ILC Industries, built this suit to fit a NASA technician named Hermling. Unlike previous series of prototypes, this suit bears a complete coverlayer to protect the astronauts against cold, heat and radiation. The white coverlayer obscures the blue pressure suit that kept the air inside the suit.

NASA Manned Spacecraft Center transferred this suit to the Museum in 1971.
