This is the stand for a full-scale model of the Sergeant missile.

The Sergeant was the U.S.'s first operational large-scale solid propellant missile. Development of the Sergeant began at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and continued at the Thiokol Chemical Coporation. It was the third in a series of rockets produced at JPL named for Army ranks (Private, Corporal, and Sergeant). The missile was in operation from 1961 to 1978.

The Sergeant missile was an important step in the development of large solid-fuel motors, most notably for the Space Shuttle's Solid Rocket Boosters.

The Sperry Corporation donated this model to the Smithsonian in 1968.
