This is an Apollo spacesuit prototype that was used for testing in the final year before the Apollo lunar missions were to begin in 1968. This suit was designated to be part of the A6-L series, which was the last in the test series. The manufacturer, ILC Industries, built this suit to fit astronaut Joseph P. Kerwin. Kerwin headed the group of astronauts who evaluated suit designs. Unlike previous series of prototypes, this suit bears a complete coverlayer to protect the astronauts against cold, heat and radiation. The white coverlayer obscures the blue pressure suit that kept the air inside the suit.

NASA Manned Spacecraft Center transferred this suit to the Museum in 1971.
