Physical Description Hand-colored satirical etching of the fall of the political coalition. Charles James Fox, a Whig, and Lord North, a Tory, had joined to form a coalition government on April 2, 1783. King George III opposed the coalition, which fell on December 17, 1783 following a parliamentary defeat. The Treaty of Paris ending the American Revolution was signed during this period. Fox, shown with a fox's head, and North are being lifted into the air by a balloon. The ropes coming from the balloon are tied around their necks, with their heads hanging limply. There is a yelling crowd on the ground. Members of the crowd and Fox and North all have speech bubbles. 'Pub. by E. Dachery as ye act directs Feby. 2d 1784, St. James's Street.'
