This is a 1:48 scale model of the Pershing I, a U.S. Army surface-to-surface missile. These missiles were deployed on mobile launchers in various NATO nations from 1962 until the late 1970s when they were replaced by the more advanced Pershing IIs. A two-stage liquid-fuel missile, Pershing Is carried a single nuclear warhead. Early versions had a range of approximately 100 miles, while subsequent versions had a range of up to 460 miles. NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center built this model and transferred it to NASM in 1972.
