When Jodie Foster, “an actress for 25 of her 28 years,” made Time’s cover in the fall of 1991, she was already an accomplished film star, winning a Best Actress Oscar in 1989 for playing a party girl who was raped in The Accused. She would win a second Oscar three years later for her role in The Silence of the Lambs. The magazine’s focus now was on Foster’s first stint at directing a feature film, Little Man Tate. When asked if she planned to appear in the film, she said, “That is the biggest mistake, unless you’re Woody Allen.”
