Collected by Thomas Moran (1837-1926, a prolific artist of Western landscapes), probably during a trip to the Colorado River, probably in 1873; inherited by his daughter Ruth B. Moran (1870-1948), who donated her father's collection to the East Hampton Free Library (East Hampton, New York) in 1948; donated to MAI by the East Hampton Free Library in 1967.
