Collection History
Acquired by Jane Hawkins (Mrs. Oliver Hawkins, Hoonah Tlingit, ca. 1878-1937) from a Tlingit weaver in Hoonah, Alaska, in 1936; acquired from Mrs. Hawkins by Axel Rasmussen (1886-1945, a collector and superintendent of schools in Wrangell and Sitka, Alaska); lent by Axel Rasmussen to the Wrangell Institute (a Native boarding School in Wrangell, Alaska) at an unknown date and presumably transferred to the Institute's possession with Rasmussen's death in 1945; purchased by Susan D. Barrow (1907-1988, a teacher at the Wrangell Institute) and her husband Henry D. Barrow (1909-1987, a ship captain) from the Wrangell Institute in 1945; purchased by MAI from Mr. and Mrs. Barrow in 1948.
