Collection history unknown, but possibly collected between 1884 and 1898 by Lady Edith Blake (1845-1926, amateur ethnologist, archaeologist, and artist) and her husband Sir Henry Arthur Blake (1840-1918, governor of the Bahamas from 1884 to 1887 and governor of Jamaica from 1889 to 1898); purchased from the Blakes by MAI in 1916 using funds donated by MAI trustee James B. Ford (1844-1928).
