Excavated by University of Chicago anthropologist Frederick Starr (1858-1933) between 1894 and 1896; purchased by the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois) from Frederick Starr in 1905; acquired by MAI through an exchange with the Field Museum in 1919.
