Said to have been owned by Chief Plenty Coups (Alaxchiiaahush [Many War Achievements], Apsáalooke, 1848-1932) and received by him from a Niimíipuu friend; acquired from descendants of Plenty Coups in 1960 by Rupert Costo (Cahuilla, 1906-1989) and his wife Jeanette Henry Costo (Eastern Band of Cherokee, 1909-2001); donated to MAI by Rupert Costo and Jeanette Henry Costo in 1971.
