Purchased by Indian Arts and Crafts Board representatives from E. Arthur Patterson (1915-1996, a US Bureau of Indian Affairs official in Nome, Alaska) in 1965; part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) until 2000 when it was transferred to NMAI.
