Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Axel Rasmussen (1886-1945, a collector and superintendent of schools in Wrangell and Sitka, Alaska); purchased from his estate by Earl Stendahl (1888-1966) of the Stendahl Galleries (Hollywood, California) circa 1947; purchased by the Portland Art Museum (Portland, Oregon) from Earl Stendahl in 1948; purchased by the Meltzer Gallery (New York City) in 1959 at a surplus sale held by the Portland Art Museum; purchased by Helen Pep Grodka (1898-1982, an artist and Native American art enthusiast) in 1965 from the Meltzer Gallery; donated to MAI in 1982 by Helen Pep Grodka's daughter and son-in-law, Sonia Grodka Blumenthal and Harry W. Blumenthal (1924-2013).
