A close friend of Mary Todd Lincoln in her youth, Julia Trumbull married the Democrat U.S. Senator from Illinois, Lyman Trumbull, in 1843. She had three sons and died in 1868.
The Julia Trumbull (Mrs. Lyman) Papers include three letters from the following individuals respectively: U.S. Senator James Rood Doolittle's apology for missing a dinner date, William B. Wright informing Mrs. Lyman of the death of his wife, and A.G. Norton lobbying for the nomination of Rev. E. Folsom to the Chicago Sanitary Commission.
