In space dimension 2.5 a set of nonlocal boundary conditions has been proposed in Chen et al. [Q. Chen, J. Laminie, A. Rousseau, R. Temam, J. The present article is aimed at testing the validity of these boundary conditions with physically relevant data. The issues tested are the well-posedness in the nonlinear case and the computational efficiency of the boundary conditions for limited area models [T.T. Warner, R.A. Peterson, R.E.
