Show moreThe history of high-performance computing at NCAR is reviewed from Control Data Corporation’s 3600 through the current IBM p575 cluster and new Cray XT5m, but with special recognition of NCAR’s relationship with Seymour Cray and Cray Research, Inc. The recent acquisition of a Cray XT5m is discussed, along with the rationale for that acquisition. NCAR’s plans for the new NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and the current status of that construction project, are also described. Show less
