Show moreThe NCAR Scientific Balloon Facility (NSBF) Annual Report 1971 includes information on facilities, major equipment, heavy load polyethylene balloon program, wind screen study, long duration balloon program, in-flight deployment, telecommand and data collection system, thermal analysis services, flight services by the NCAR crew, Stratoscope II, Galaxia 1971, personnel, funding, panel meetings, and plans for 1972. A total of 77 flights were flown for 28 scientific groups from 24 institutions and 4 countries. Flights were flown from Palestine, Huntsville, Alabama, and Parana, Argentina with a 81% success rate. Management of the Scientific Balloon Facility was moved from Boulder, Colorado to Palestine, Texas and Mr. Alfred Shipley replaced Mr. Alvin L. Morris as manager. Show less
