Michael Mott, a poet and the author of novels for children and adults, was born and educated in England. He first began publishing poetry in 1948. He has held both editing and teaching positions in his career as a writer, serving as the poetry editor of the Kenyon Review from 1966-1970. Mott served as a writer-in-residence at the College of William and Mary during the 1978 and 1985 terms. He taught on the faculties of Emory University and Bowling Green State University; he retired in 1992. As a Guggenheim Fellow, he was appointed to write the official biography of Thomas Merton which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and received the Christopher Award in 1985.
