Guy Despard Goff (1866 - 1933) graduated from Kenyon College in 1888 and from Harvard Law School in 1891.

From that time, he practiced law. From 1911-1915, he served as U.S. Attorney for the eastern district of Wisconsin. In 1917, he was special assistant to the U.S. Attorney General. During World War I, Goff was commissioned a colonel in the Judge Advocate General's Department of the United States Army and served in France and Germany from 1918-1920. Goff was a United States Senator from West Virginia from 1925-1931. He married Anne Baker Goff (1867-1954). Their daughter, Louise Goff Reece (1898-1970), wife of longtime East Tennessee Congressman B. Carroll Reece, was herself a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, making three generations of the Goff family to serve in Congress.
