  • 1842 - 1844 : Apprenticed at law
  • 1848: Graduated, Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn. Admitted to the Genesee Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church
  • 1849: Married Ellen Lois Stowe
  • 1850: Ordained a deacon
  • 1852: Ordained an elder
  • 1858: Expelled from the Genesee Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church
  • 1860: Organized Free Methodist Church, Pekin, N.Y. (now Free Methodist Church of North America) Began publication of The Earnest Christian
  • 1860 - 1893 : First General Superintendent, Free Methodist Church
  • 1866: Founded the A. M. Chesbrough Seminary (now Roberts Wesleyan College), North Chili, N.Y.
