John C. Spencer, a Congressman from N.Y., also served as President Tyler's Secretary of War and Secretary of the Treasury. Spencer resigned from the Cabinet because of his opposition to annex Texas. He was then nominated to the Supreme Court, but was rejected.

John Nelson, a Congressman from Maryland, also served as President Tyler's Attorney General, as well as the Secretary of State ad interim.
