Mining metallurgist, manager, public servant and industrialist, Herbert Gepp joined the staff of the Australian Explosives and Chemical Co. at Deer Park, Victoria in 1894. The company was later taken over by Nobel's Explosive Co. and Gepp was manager in 1902.

Herbert Gepp was appointed Manager of the Australian Explosives and Chemical Company in 1902 and joined the Zinc Corporation in 1950. He became General Manager of the Electrolytic Zinc Company in 1916; later he served as a member of numerous Royal Commissions.
