George Lanaux was born on August 16, 1816, and died in 1888. He was a planter involved in the management and operation of Bellevue Plantation, and in later life was president of the New Orleans Insurance Association. He was the son of Charles (b. 1792) and Aime Lanaux, and he had seven siblings. He married his cousin Jeanne Odile Lanaux, daughter of Arnaud and Adeline Fossier Lanaux. In 1847, following the death of Arnaud, George was appointed curator of his uncle's estate.
