John Carnegie Eaton was born c1915. He was appointed as a lecturer in Mathematics at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, Scotland, before becoming senior lecturer. He retired from his post as senior lecturer in the School of Mathematics & Physics in 1972. As well as his interest in Mathematics, he was also interested in the history of the Royal Technical College and was involved in the campaign for a new University of East Stirlingshire and another campaign to allow the University of Strathclyde to benefit from the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust . The John C Eaton Reading Room was dedicated to his memory following his death in 1972.
