Leo Goldberg (1913-1987), Astronomer. Astronomy Department at the University of Michigan (1946-1960); election to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (1958); chaired the Astronomy Department and Higgins Professor of Astronomy, Harvard University (1960-1971); Director of the Harvard College Observatory (1966-1971); Chair of NASA's Astronomy Missions Board (1967-1970); Director of Kitt Peak National Observatory (1971-1977): President of the International Astronomical Union; and the first incumbent of the Martin Marietta Chair of Space History at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, 1977.

Leo Goldberg (1913-1987) was appointed in 1941 to the McMath-Hulbert Observatory at the University of Michigan, and became chairman of the astronomy department there in 1946, along with becoming director of the observatory. Goldberg was Higgins Professor of Astronomy at Harvard from 1960-1971 and director of the Harvard College Observatory from 1966-1971. In 1971, he became director of the National Observatory at Kitt Peak, Arizona. There he remained until 1977, when he became the first incumbent of the Martin Marietta Chair of Space History at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
