William Van Deventer, New York City clothier and investor. Van Deventer ran J. & W. Van Deventer's clothing store in Manhattan. Two of his brothers, Peter (1815-1869) and Henry (1809-1879), managed the P.L. & H. Van Deventer & Co. firm in St. Louis, Missouri.
