Came to Kaskaskia in 1798 prior to Illinois statehood. He served in the Indiana territorial legislature and was one of the first Randolph County Commissioners and Adjutant General in the Illinois Territory, 1809. His brothers' William and James also lived in Kaskaskia. His brother Joseph and his wife, Anne, remained in Philadelphia.
