Born October 28, 1912, in Anderson, SC, daughter of Arthur Elliott and Olive (Brownlee) Holman. Attended Hanna High School in Anderson. A.B. from Winthrop College in 1934, M.A. from the University of Michigan in 1939, Ph. D. from Duke University in 1948. Taught in Anderson and Pendleton public schools 1934-1941 and Winthrop College 1942-1944. Reference librarian at Duke University 1945-1949 and at Winthrop College 1949-1952. Professor of English at Erskine College and chair of the English Department 1942-1960.
