Author and horticulturalist; born Mary Corre; married John Griffith (d. 1815), a wealthy New York City merchant; purchased a farm ("Charlieshope") in Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey, ca. 1820 and lived there until she sold the property ca. 1836; wrote Our Neighbourhood, or Letters on Horticulture and Natural Phenomena, published 1831, and Camperdown, or News from Our Neighborhood, published 1836; died at Red Hook, Duchess County, New York, in 1846. Note: death date listed incorrectly as 1877 in some sources.
