Lawyer and state legislator, of Aberdeen, Wash.; b. in Battle Creek, Mich.; attended law school at University of Michigan, graduating in 1900; in 1906 moved to Aberdeen, Wash., where he opened a law practice and continued lifelong activitiy in Knights of Pythias and other fraternal organizations; during World War I served as chairman of the civilian relief committee in Aberdeen; in 1919 elected on Republican ticket to the state senate and served there until 1921; after his service in the state senate, remained active in public life and in 1930 was elected president of Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce; was a vocal advocate for wilderness preservation particularly in the Olympic Mountains and the establishment of Olympic National Park. Married 1st: Carrie Wilson (d. 1916); 2nd: Alma Wing.
