Son of Andrew Spottiswoode M. P. Educated at Harow and Balliol College Oxford. B. A. 1845, 1st class mathematics. He studied curves and surfaces and the polarisation of light and was a very successful lecturer. F. R. S. 1853. Treasurer R. S. 1870-1878. President 1878-1883. President of British Association 1878.
