Weeks, Lovina Walker.

Hide Profile

Lovina Walker Weeks came to California (1859) with her husband Alfred Weeks and their two daughters, Esther (13) and Florence (8). They travelled from Athens, Michigan to Irvington, Calif. in the charge of Lovina Weeks' brother, Jared Tuttle Walker. Jared Walker (b. 1822) had first come to California in 1852. After a brief stint of mining he began farming in Alameda County, returning to Michigan for his sisters, their husbands and a wife for himself in 1858. Walker/Weeks Party trip was easy and uneventful. Diary format is a double narrative, in that typescript text of Lovina Weeks' diary (1859) is interlarded with reminiscences by daughter Florence that were written in 1929. Florence's writing is far more vivid and detailed than her mother's.
