Employed by Allstate Insurance Co. and Hudson Co. until he became Staff Assistant and later Special assistant to President Richard Nixon, 1963-1973. 1973-1974 Director of the National Park Service in the Department of Interior. Businessman and consultant. Managed Republican National Convention, 1984 and served as chairman of the Presidential Inaugural Committee, 1985.
