Gulston, Joseph

Joseph Gulston (1745-1786), book and art collector and connoisseur, was the eldest son of Joseph Gulston (1693/4-1766), a successful loan contractor with mercantile interests in Lisbon. Gulston became MP for Poole in 1765 and 1780, but his chief interest was in collecting books and prints, the sale of the latter lasting 40 days in 1786.
